What the check looks at

Five public FDA record types, all linked to their source.
  • Import alerts. Whether the supplier is on the red, green or yellow list of any food import alert, and which one.
  • Import refusals. How many shipment lines FDA has refused since October 2016, and the latest.
  • Warning letters, inspections and recalls. Letters addressed to the firm, its latest inspection classification, and recalls it ran.

These are the FDA records an FSVP importer must consider under 21 CFR 1.505(a)(1)(iii)(B). See how to check if a supplier is on an FDA import alert.

Questions about the bulk check

How do I check whether a supplier is on an FDA import alert?
Paste the supplier's name or FEI number into the bulk check, one per line. For up to 5 suppliers it returns each supplier's current import alert listing, refusal count and warning letter status, and links to the supplier's full FDA record history.
Is the bulk check really free?
Yes. Visitors without an account can check up to 5 suppliers at no cost. With a free account you can also watch a supplier and get an email when its FDA record changes.
What if my supplier has no FEI number or I only have a name?
Names work. The check matches a name against suppliers with an FDA record and shows close alternatives when several firms look alike, so you can pick the right plant. An FEI number is exact; the guide on finding an FEI lists every lookup route.
Does a clean result mean a supplier is safe?
No. The check shows what FDA's public records say, with dates and sources. It does not score or recommend suppliers, and a supplier with no record may simply not have been inspected or refused. The evaluation and the decision stay with the importer under 21 CFR 1.505.
How current is the result?
Import alert lists are checked every day; refusals, warning letters, inspections and recalls are checked every week. Every supplier page shows when it was last checked.

Watch the suppliers you buy from.

The check is a snapshot. A free account watches one supplier and emails you the day its FDA record changes; Starter watches ten and adds a dated PDF for your FSVP file.
